Newsletter June 2023

Dear Member

Coverdale is bathed in glorious sunshine, albeit interrupted by the occasional downpour. The farms have their first, and in some cases second, cut of silage gathered in, lambing is over for another year and locals and visitors are enjoying meals and drinks both inside and outside the Foresters Arms.

We are pleased to say that Diana and Paul are well supported by the local community as well as visitors to the dale and the Foresters Arms is regularly packed with happy customers. Diana and Paul have managed to find time in their busy schedule to pen a few words for inclusion in this newsletter, as follows;

Hello everyone.

So, we have been the tenants of The Foresters Arms almost a year now. After a busy and challenging start, we are starting to find our feet and a suitable routine.

We had a long winter, but were well supported by locals, visitors and the local shooting community. We have now embarked on the summer season and the volume of people coming to the pub is evident. The Foresters Society day went extremely well, combining the pub and Coverdale Memorial Hall for activities.

With much appreciated help from the CCP board and locals, we have ticked off the much needed cosmetic appearance of the pub and surrounding areas, including new pebbles on the outside seating area, painting benches and weeding etc.

To look forward, we will be helping host the 2023 Biker Rally on the 14th,15th and 16th of July, this will incorporate 300+ bikers camping on the adjacent field with a bar and live music organised in the Memorial Hall.

The CCP AGM will take place on the 13th September, which will predominantly start in the Memorial Hall followed by drinks and buffet in the Foresters Arms.

We shall be planning other events throughout the summer, which will involve live music and BBQ’s. (Dates TBC)

Thank you all for all your support, we look forward to serving you in the near future.

Paul and Diana.

We are pleased to report that the repair carried out to the main bar fire has held well over the winter period. We will continue to monitor the repair but anticipate that its condition will mean that the fireplace will remain serviceable in its current form for the time being.

The CCP continue to be contacted by communities who are hoping to save their local pub. We are more than happy to share our experiences and knowledge with these groups and are pleased to hear when they have been successful in their quest. The community owned pubs sector continues to grow and now numbers 167.

Save the date:
A key date for the diary. We are planning this year’s AGM to take place on Wednesday 13th September. Please save the date and as usual, we will send the agenda and related documents nearer the time.

Thank you for being shareholders in our community owned pub, your continued support is much appreciated. If you have changed postal address, email address or telephone number please inform John Watson our membership secretary, his contact details are at the beginning of this newsletter.
