Newsletter December 2023

Dear Member

As we write this newsletter the Foresters Arms is bathed in sunshine and a fine dusting of snow. The weather forecasters tell us that the current run of below average temperatures will be with us for a while yet. It’s good to know that regular trips up and down the dale by the council gritter wagons mean we can get to the Foresters, where a warm welcome and blazing fire await.

As we reported at this year’s AGM, the fireplace repairs carried out last year held well over the winter and we are pleased to report that this continues to be the case. Also mentioned at the AGM was the need for repairs to/rebuilding of the lean-to storeroom. We had a successful meeting with the Yorkshire Dales National Park which means we can now move on to investigating options and costings. In the meantime, some minor structural repairs have been carried out which should ensure it is at least weatherproof over the winter months.

Dear Member

Coverdale is bathed in glorious sunshine, albeit interrupted by the occasional downpour. The farms have their first, and in some cases second, cut of silage gathered in, lambing is over for another year and locals and visitors are enjoying meals and drinks both inside and outside the Foresters Arms.

We are pleased to say that Diana and Paul are well supported by the local community as well as visitors to the dale and the Foresters Arms is regularly packed with happy customers. Diana and Paul have managed to find time in their busy schedule to pen a few words for inclusion in this newsletter, as follows;

Newsletter December 2022

Merry Christmas!

On Christmas Eve the Foresters Arms will have been open for business for eleven years as a community owned pub, such a fantastic achievement.  Once again, we can all look back and reflect on the hard work put in by the original Committee back in 2011, and the sheer joy of the official opening by Alistair and Jonathon Brownlee, which took place on 10th November 2012.

On the 24th September 2022 the CCP Ltd celebrated 10 years of the Foresters Arms trading as a community owned pub.  A marquee was erected in the car park, where live music was enjoyed by those attending during the afternoon and evening.  An outdoor bar was set up and barbequed food was served throughout the celebrations.  The event was very well attended and a great time was had by all.
