Dear Member
We hope that your festive celebrations all went according to plan and you managed to meet up with and enjoy time with your friends and family.
You will see from the photographs that we have put up two banners to celebrate our community owned pub having been open for 10 years. As mentioned in the December newsletter we look forward to holding celebratory events later in the year.
As the Foresters Arms was one of the earlier community owned pubs, the CCP continue to be contacted by communities who are hoping to save their local pub. We are happy to discuss their plans with them and give whatever advice we can. When the Foresters Arms reopened in 2011 there were only a few pubs in community ownership, whereas there are now over one hundred and thirty. ln the early stages we were assisted by the Plunkett Foundation, of which we continue to be a member.
The Plunkett Foundation is a national charity which supports rural communities across the UK to tackle the issues they face through community business. Their support and training events which are relevant to community owned pub groups are attended by a representative of the CCP board. As the number of community owned pubs is increasing, the Plunkett Foundation have also developed regional networks. A representative of the CCP board attends the North East and Yorkshire Community Pub Network Zoom meetings, where various aspects of the ways in which community pubs can be successful are discussed.
ln July this year, the current tenancy of the Foresters Arms comes to an end. The Board feel, in the interest of our members, that it is important to explore all the options. Above all our focus is on how the pub can be successful over the next few years. For that reason, we have decided to advertise the tenancy. Already we have received a number of enquiries from individuals who have expressed an interest but the formal advertising does not begin until later this month. To be clear, this is an open process and our current tenants have the opportunity to apply alongside any other prospective tenants. We will of course provide updates on the tenancy process in future newsletters.
